Fight Club

Fight Club is an adaptation of the book Fight Club written by American author Chuck Palahniuk. The film based on the plot of the novel is about the protagonist who is unable to deal with the social demands of his life and in order to free himself from the external forces he needs a release. He therefore creates an underground Fight Club, which becomes his source of finding release

In the film Edward Norton plays the nameless narrator who is unable to take responsibilities in his life. He has sleeping disorders and goes to a doctor to solve his problem. The doctor does not give him medication instead he advises the narrator to visit a testicular cancer support group. Realizing what real suffering is all about the narrator has no problems in sleeping after his visit. He starts visiting these kinds of support groups often faking symptoms in order to be part of them. He finally meets Marla Singer a character played by Helena Bonham Carter who is almost like him. They strike a deal never to run into each other again. Later on he finally meets Tyler played by Brad Pitt who unknown to him is his own alter ego.
This guy is a soap salesman with whom he moves in because his own house is taken down in an explosion .As they are leaving a bar Tyler tells the narrator to punch him and both have a fist fight that make them realize that they quite enjoy this form of release. They then decide to create a fight club of their own in Tyler’s basement. As time goes by their organized fight club becomes a movement that becomes bigger and bigger by the day .The craze is in turn taken up by the whole city and is given the name of Project Mayhem. They turn to illegal activities and take up vandalism. The narrator gradually realizes that the action is moving out of his control and this is not what he wants. He is in fact left out of the all the work that is done by Project Mayhem. After a verbal fight Tyler tries to kill the narrator by crashing the car in which they are driving and then abandoning him. However when a member of the Club loses his life the narrator decides to take action against Tyler. Once he tries to trace Tyler’s activities he has a feeling that he has done the same things and visited the same places himself. When in a confrontation with Tyler the narrator realizes that it is he who is holding the gun and Tyler is just an illusion. The movie got mixed reviews and was considered to have a better narrative then the book. It had got nominated for an Oscar for its sound editing. Wikipedia
