In Cold Blood is a film that was adapted from the original novel that of the same name. The novel was written by Truman Capote after a lot of research done on the murders of the family of Herbert Clutter a wealthy farmer who had established himself from modest beginnings, his children and his wife

This film portrayed how two convicts are involved in the meaningless mass murders of a family for the cash that they never had. It also shows that the murderers where each of a character that they could not have been able to do it if they were working alone in this operation. The Clutter family is portrayed as a easy going unit with four children, three girls and a boy. The head of the family Kenyon Clutter is a successful farmer who had a reputation for being kind and a good employer to his farmhands. Richard Brooks was heavily influenced by the book and had been loyal to the events that were described in great detail. However there are certain situations in the movie where the director had taken some artistic license. For instance he had created the character of a reporter which had been taken up by the actor Paul Stewart in order to pull the events of the story together.
The film also brought out the characters of the murderers. Perry Smith’s character played by Robert Blake and Dick Hickock played by Scott Wilson are brilliant presentations. They both have brilliant portrayals and bring out the minds of the killers most effectively. Played by Robert Blake Hickocks character is that of a lifetime conman who had quite a normal childhood but had a bent for crime right from an early age. He is portrayed as an above average intelligence person who is always involved in petty crimes and fraud. Perry Smith played by Scott Wilson is a more shy person who has an artistic bent of mind. For the shooting schedules of the film the directors had used the same locations where the original events took place. For instance most of the scenes were shot in locations in and around Holcomb and Garden City in the city of Kansas. The film also depicts the murders that take place in cold blood in the clutter residence itself . It depicts how the two murderers broke into the house and overpowered the members of the household. According to a wrong information given to them by another convict who had worked at the Clutters .They thought that they would find a lot of cash in the lonely farmhouse which was actually not the case because Clutter usually transactions through check . The film was nominated for as many as four nominations in the Academy Awards.Wikipedia
