Dumb and Dumber

Dumb and Dumber is a comedy in which actors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels perform in the lead roles. The comedy was released in 1994 and Farelly Brothers were the film’s director. Dumb and Dumber is a modern example of slap stick comedy and gross-out humor. Slapstick comedies are those comedies that resort to excessive physical activities for producing hilarious laughter

On the other hand, gross-out comedies are those, which depict sexual and toilets humors and are generally vulgar in nature. Dumb and Dumber fall into both of the categories and therefore, has some disgusting scenes that make the audience slightly uncomfortable because of the crude comic scenes. Since its release, the film is considered as a milestone comedy classic of the modern era and has become the source of numerous humorous quotes. Through “Dumb and Dumber “, Jim Carrey was able to establish himself as a successful comedian and Farrelly Brothers took an official entry into the film industry as a leading film producer. Dumb and Dumber was very successful at the MTV Movie Awards, though it could not attain much acclaimation the other major awards of the US film Industry. In the MTV Movie Awrds, Jim Carrey bagged the Award for Best Comedic Performance. Carrey and Lauren Holly, who later entered a wed lock in real life won the award for Best Kiss. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels got nominated as the Best On-Screen Duo. In Dumb and Dumbers, Jim Carrey plays the role of Lloyd Christmas and Jeff Daniels portrays the character of Harry Dune. The two characters are of two totally brainless men, who reside in an apartment at Providence in the Rhode Island. In the course of the film, they meet Mary Swanson, played by Lauren Holly and are put into trouble by the latter. Lauren Holly features as Jim carrey’s love interest. While shooting on the sets of Dumb and Dumbers, Jim Carrey had to undergo gall stone surgery and shooting was stopped for the time being.

Apart from the leading characters, the film has some secondary characters among which Nicholas Andre, who is the kidnapper of Mary Swanson’s husband, deserve mention. His plot of kidnapping Mary Swanson‘s husband is exposed by the Lloyds and Harry duo, who draw the attention of FBI. The other secondary character who has quite a significant role is Joe “Mental“ Mentalino. It was performed by Mike Starr. He is a close associate of Nicholas Andre and is known as the ‘ Gas Man ‘, as he has digestive disorders and suffers from ulcers and gas. He gets subsequently killed in the movie.
