Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee Story Of Dee Brown

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is the television movie of 2007, which is based on the story of Dee Brown. It was produced by HBO and aired in the same channel. The film received 17 nominations in the Emmy Awards and they won six of them. Dee Browns story name as well as the title of the film had been taken from the poem American Names, written by Stephen Vincent Benet. The story is about the history of Native Americans of west America in the 19th century.

The story of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was based on three main characters. First among them was a young Sioux doctor, named Charles Eastman. Another character is called Sitting Bull who was a proud Lakota chief. Bull decline to strip his community people and their sacred land, which was separated by the US Government. The third main character was Senator Henry Dawes, who was an architect, recruited by the Government.

Dawes and his men wanted to make a policy that could break the Sioux unity. For that work he wanted the support of Eastman. But after knowing the whole situation, Eastman refused to help the Dawes Commission. After that the Native Americans started to protest against the white men of America. But the hope of their liberty shattered completely when a large number of Sioux people, including Bull died in the massacre at Wounded Knee. This was the end of the film Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

That fatal incident portrayed in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is well known as the Wounded Knee Massacre and The Battle at Wounded Knee Creek. The Massacre was made by 500 troops of the U.S. 7th Cavalry in 29th December 1890. In this massacre more than 146 Sioux as well as at least 25 troopers had been died. It was the last major armed clash between the Sioux and the United States Battalion.

Adam Beach played the role of Charles Eastman and Aidan Quinn played the character of Dawes in the movie. Beach is very happy and excited about his character in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. According to him, in the movie, Eastman was used as a window into the Sioux community. He told that, he is grateful to HBO for portraying this history. Aidan Quinn also feels very proud to be the part of this film and his work has been praised by the movie buffs. He got the Emmy Award nomination for his performance in this television movie.
