I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus is one of the most popular songs of Christmas time. It was originally recorded by Jimmy Boyd in 1952 and reached the top of the Billboard charts that year. In 2001, a film was released with the same title and based on the Christmas song.
The film, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus deals with the mistaken notions of a little boy Justin Carver and the hilarious sequences which follow. On Christmas Eve, Justin goes back to his bedroom after witnessing an intense quarrel between his parents Stephanie and David Carver. A few moments later, he peeks down and sees his Mom kissing Santa, who, unknown to Justin is actually his Dad.
Justin was afraid that his mother was having an affair with Santa as he was already occupied by the recent separation of his best friends parents. The film then follows Justin as he tries various ways to keep Santa from visiting his house. The resulting capers include setting traps and throwing snow balls at some other Santa. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus ends with everything being resolved satisfactorily and the real Santa gets one more year of fulfilling the wishes of kids.
The film has been acted by Dylan and Cole Sprouse as Justin. Other cast members of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus include Connie Selleca as Stephanie Carver, Corbin Bernsen as David Carver and Sonny Carl Davis as Santa/Floyd. The film was directed by John Shepphird and had the tagline, Christmas is coming and Santas a dirty rat.
The popular song I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus was first recorded in 1952 by Jimmy Boyd. Neiman Marcus commissioned the song in order to promote their Christmas card of the year which featured an original sketch by artist Perry Barlow. In the following years, the song was covered by many other artists and even became the subject of some parodied versions.
The song I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus ran into controversy some time after it was first released. It was banned by the Catholic Church of Boston which objected to the mixing of a sacred event as Christmas with physical human love. One of the most widely photographed events of the time showed Jimmy Boyd, aged only thirteen, meeting the Archdiocese to explain the meaning behind the song. Wikipedia
