KSBW Television Channel

KSBW is a television channel that is available in all parts of the United States of America. It started transmission on the 11th of September in the year 1953. The channel is affiliated to the National Broadcasting Company.

KSBW has its origin in Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz in California. Owned by Hearst Argyle Television company, the channel has its studios in Salinas. It is basically a news channel under the name Action News 8.With its transmitter located on Fremont Peak near San Juan Bautista in California, the channel is available on cable channel 6 on most cable systems in the country.

KSBW TV initially shared its transmission with the KSBY TV of Monterey on the channel 8 band. The two channels eventually merged together in the year 1955. Though its original affiliations were as many as four networks, namely the National Broadcasting Company, CBS Inc., the American Broadcasting Company and Dumont, only the first two remain now.

The tumbling state of ownership and affiliation continued with KSBW TV and KSBY TV. Initially both the channels were owned by Blair Broadcasting. However, the later sold them to Gillett Communication as the broadcasting company sold all its channels featuring in English.

However, by the beginning of the 1990s, the KSBW TV and the KSBY TV were again thrown into the market in order to get a buyer. It was owned by many purchasers like the New Worlds Communication, EP Communication, Smith Broadcasting and many more until it landed up in the stable hands of Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. from the year 1998.

Though the channel KSBW had gone through a huge amount of disputes regarding its ownership and affiliation, it was still able to carry out its transmission and broadcasting properly. Initially, the channel was news based but it has changed its format from the year 1987, after receiving permission for transmission throughout the country.

The KSBW has almost doubled it time of casting news bulletins on week days. It has now started to provide the latest updates on all aspects of life like sports, music, etc. This change in its presentation was implemented from 1991.

KSBW has changed almost everything that it had during its early days, even its symbol. After having incorporated the name Action 8, it has got a new symbol 8 on its logo, quite like the symbol of the FOX8. It will soon be offered in the Direct TV Service Network.
