Die Hard

With the release of the film Die Hard a whole new genre of movie making was born. Considered to be one of the best action movies of all times it redefines cinema and brings our new perspectives of movie making. The movie established Bruce Willis career as a bankable star and made him one of the sought after celebrities in Hollywood.

This action packed riot was considered to have spawned a number of action movies that were tried to introduce features that were similar to this movie. Other great films like Under Siege and Speed followed giving the audience a lot to feast on. It created the image of a hero who was far more human then the others who had preceded him. Someone whom the audience could identify themselves with. The plot line is pretty simple with no complexities at all. John McClane from the New York police department has come to Los Angeles to meet his wife Holly for Christmas. Relationship between the pair is not good and they have an argument after John meets her at her office Christmas party in the Nakatomi Building. Little does John know that he would be caught up in one of the greatest challenges of his life in an attempt not only to rescue his wife and himself but also others too as the Building is put under siege by a group of German terrorists. Based on the Roderick Thorp novel entitled Nothing lasts For Ever the film becomes a race against time with one cop combating twelve terrorists with only his wit , sarcasm and plain level headedness in handling the situation alone. John tries to contact the LAPD several times but all his efforts fail.
However John is finally able to get LAPD Sgt. Al Powell’s attention by dropping one of the terrorists body directly on the cop’s car. The game of cat and mouse inside the building carries on with the police finally realizing that the building has been taken into control by anti-socials responding by a large police force that is deployed just outside the building. Hans Gruber played brilliantly by Alan Rickman is the master mind of the project and finds out because of an irresponsible TV reporter that John’s wife is Holly and takes her hostage. In the final showdown with Hans, John acts as if he is completely bitten and is about to surrender all the time having a taped gun at the back. The scene is done up brilliantly with the pursuer and the pursued having a sarcastic conversation all the time. As he is about to fall of the building after a fight Hans pulls Holly after him but is caught at the right time by John. The film ends with Holly and John kissing each other at the back of the vehicle that is driving them home to an exciting and hopeful Christmas.Wikipedia
