The movie Festen was made in the year 1998 with the story of the movie being penned by the writer Thomas Vinterberg along with the screenplay. The movie was released on June 19th in the year 1998 at Denmark and the movie was also released at several other places like Sweden and Norway, in the same year.

A Special screening of the movie was done at the Cannes Film Festival as well as at the Montreal Film Festival, as also the prominent film festivals like the New York Film Festival.Basically the genre of the movie is drama which is very much reflected in the tagline that goes with the movie, which is Every Family Has a Secret. The movie Festen revolves around the father of the family turning sixty years of age. Being the head of a big family, the celebrations of his family begin at a castle, where every member of the family assembles to the turn the affair in to a social event. But the question is now put before the viewers, which whether the family members actually adore their father, or do they simply make a sham of everything that they apparently do for their father. The younger son of the family has been trying to fulfill his father’s aspirations regarding him. He is engaged as the owner of a grill bar that is located at a not so clean area of Copenhagen in Denmark. The older son of the family is the owner of a restaurant at France, while his sister is occupied as a lawyer. But the sad part of the movie is that the older sister in the family had been such tormented that she had to take away her own life. At the birthday celebration, the father now asks the older brother in the family to say a few words about the deceased sister on the occasion. Two colored speeches – one yellow and a green one are rendered on the occasion, of which the father chooses the Green speech (The speech of Truth). At this hour of sad remembrance, the father now anticipates that the cause of her daughter committing suicide might fall out before everybody.Imdb
