Casper, as the name suggests is a very friendly ghost. He is a ghost, but could be thought to be a person. The movie version of Casper, which was made in the year 1995, specially emphasizes on the real name Casper McFadden. The first appearance of Casper was in the decade of early 1940s when he was conceptualized by Seymour Reit and Joe Oriolo. While Seymour Reit used to do the conceptualization part, Joe Oriolo had the responsibility of illustrating the character of Casper, as the friendly ghost. The publisher of the comic series of the story was done by the Harvey Comics. The comics first came out in the form of children’s story book. Later Oriolo sold the rights to the character to the Paramount Picture’s Famous Studios animation division, for which he used to work at several occasions.
Ghost, which was the first Noveltoon that featured Casper, got released by the Paramount Pictures in the year 1945. As presented in the cartoon series, Casper comes as a cute and pudgy ghost child, who likes to be friends with the human beings, rather than frightening them. Casper leaves his home at the local haunted house and goes on to make new friends. But as he tries to make friends with the human or animals, most of them take one horrified look at him and runs towards the opposite direction, from which they came. Very upset under this circumstances, Casper tries to commit suicide, but he could not, as he is already dead. It is at this time, that Casper goes on to meet two children, who are of his same age. Detested by the idea that a ghost would become her children’s friend, the mother of the two at first reject Casper. But after Casper gets the family ridden of a greedy landlord, he is treated as a new member of the family. There were two Noveltoons that were made on Casper, but Paramount Pictures went on to launch a series on Casper the Friendly Ghost in the year 1950.Theatrical rehearsals of Casper went to hit the theatres in the year 1959. Casper turned to be an asset to the Famous studios. Alfred Harvey, the founder and the publisher of Harvey comics started the production of the comic books on Casper in the year 1952 and in the year 1957; he got to purchase the rights of the character straight away.
